An entrepreneurial idea that I have is a station, located at every intersection of a college campus.  It will be called the INTERSECT. This station will have the ability to give you directions and show maps to any building located within a college campus. All you have to do is swipe your ID card to prove that you are a student or faculty member. This will help to reduce students from being late to class. It will also help student’s better get around campus and go to places that they are not familiar with.
The station will be a tablet board where you can input the building or address on campus that you want to go to. The tablet will then give you step-by-step directions to get there from the intersection you are at. Another ability of this station is that you will have the ability to log onto social network sites such as Facebook, twitter, or foursquare to check-in. This will allow others such as friends or professors to know where you are, relative to where you have to get.
The ability to alert others where you are is a huge part of the Social Media Revolution. It will be very important to advertise on social media sites to let others know that this great product is available for their use. The target audience (college students) will mainly be focused on in ad campaigns to increase awareness of how useful the product is. Twitter in specific, is a great outlet to promote our brand and engage with the users of INTERSECT!

  1. Cool idea - i think you could even simplify it to a two step approach. I was thinking that most of the confusion about where to go on campus is around when new students start the semester. Then there is also confusion when there are people looking to attend the university. I think that you could make a series of these intersections just for directions and the rest of them could integrate more advanced features. The ones that are just for directions you may not even need to have students swipe their cards, but for the more powerful stations it is probably needed. Cool idea.

  2. Joey,

This is an interesting idea! I am thinking about ways in which you might improve your concept. For example, could you consider partnering with Google Earth to provide satellite images of the buildings? Could your stations offer directions to specific rooms in each building? As you continue to refine your idea, your system might offer more 'intelligent' responses - for example, maybe the system could give the most direct route given the current weather conditions.

Your idea could help many freshmen on their way to class, along with many visitors on the SU Campus.

  3. Joey,

This is a great entrepenurial idea! When I first started classes it took me such a long time to get to the correct building. This would have saved me a lot of time. And I can still see myself using it now to discover buildings/ cafes around campus that I've never tried.

Some suggestions: Perhaps you could link this with yelp to provide taxi services/ reviews of nearby restaurants?

All in all this is a very good idea that can be very beneficial in my life.

  4. I think that this is great idea for people who get lost from college campuses especially for for freshmans who just started their first year of the college. Also this idea can be developed from the settings of colleges to the companies or hospitals as well.

  5. I think this idea could really take off. It encompasses all of the topics discussed in class, and I think that they all could play integral roles in the development of the product. While the technology of the product is important, I think social networking should really be focused on. By being able to connect to social networks, you allow people to both tell their friends where they are, but it can also be used as a form of advertising, without spending any real money on ads.

  6. Being a freshman, I think this is a great idea! Their are so many places on campus that I have never even heard of so when I have to go their for something I usually just resort to my orientation book that was given to me at the beginning of the school year. This would be so helpful because it would be much more convenient and easy to use! Maybe you can expand this idea as well and not just use it in colleges but in other establishments as well. This idea could definitely go some where!
